Time tracking

Track time and bill clients.

Log the hours you spend on client work with the timer or manual entries, mark them billable, and convert unbilled time into invoice line items.

Updated August 2026

01

Start the timer

One global timer runs across the app. Start it from the Time tab or the dashboard, work anywhere in ClientDeck, then stop it to save an entry.

  1. Open the Time tab and find the active timer card.
  2. Enter what you are working on, select a project (optional), and pick a category.
  3. Click Start Timer. The running timer shows in the header so you can keep working across screens.
  4. Click Stop & Save when you are done. The entry saves to the timesheet as Unbilled.

02

Log time manually

You can add entries without a timer from the Time tab, the dashboard quick action, or the Log Time button inside a project.

  1. Click Log Time Manually (or Log Time from a project detail page).
  2. Enter a task description and choose a project — or leave it as No Project (General).
  3. Set the hours, minutes, category, and date.
  4. Leave Billable to Client checked to include the entry in your unbilled value.
  5. Click Save Entry.

03

Read the timesheet

Time entries list in a table with KPI tiles for today, this week, and unbilled value, plus filter pills for status.

  1. Check the Today and This week tiles for how much time you have logged.
  2. Review Unbilled value to see billable time that is not yet invoiced.
  3. Use the All, Unbilled, Billed, and Non-billable pills to filter the table.
  4. Watch for the banner that flags unbilled entries sitting for 30+ days.

04

Bill time to an invoice

Billable, unbilled entries convert to invoice line items. The rate used is saved on the entry, then falls back to the project hourly rate, then your default hourly rate.

  1. Open a time entry and click Convert to Invoice — it only appears for Unbilled, billable entries.
  2. Choose Create New Invoice, or Add to Existing Draft for an open draft for the same client.
  3. Click Confirm & Convert. The entry moves to Billed and links to the new invoice.
  4. If no rate is set, add an hourly rate to the project or in Settings before converting.

Notes

Rates are captured when an entry is created, so changing a project hourly rate later does not change past entries. The timer rounds up to the nearest minute with a 1 minute minimum.

Time can be logged without a project; billable expenses require one. CSV export of time entries is a Pro feature.
